THE BAHAMAS REPORT
To all sailors and guests who ever considered the Bahamas as a possible sailing territory.
It is time to look into more details on what is happening in the Bahamas lately. Various reports appear in magazines about the latest developments. Specially concentrating to the Exumas (lower Bahamas) where islands are now sold to large development companies to commercialize the area or to rich individuals. Islands are being sold and privatized. The new owners also believe that they also own now the ocean in front of their property and that nobody has the right to anchor in line of visibility of their house.
Prices are skyrocketing high that affects unfortunately also the cruising community. Cruising fees are now in place and pretty soon marina fees will be unaffordable.
We understand that celebrities are seeking privacy and it seems they have found their paradise for which they pay any price. Last time down there, we ran into Sean Connery in a local provisioning store. No security guard or paparazzi was around! And everybody enjoyed its privacy.
The latest developments on Great Exuma Island can be seen on the following websites.
www.emeraldbayresort.com http://www.fourseasons.com/greatexumaSure it is nice for the eye and for those who can afford a 200ft yacht, but for the ordinary cruiser, as most of us are, we just have to pass around and have a safe distant view, before we loose our purse.
In other words, it is a matter of time, until the Exumas are no longer affordable for the sailing community or one does no longer find a secluded anchorage.
Creative Sailing
is planning a cruise to the Bahamas again after the hurricane season is over, that ends Nov. 30, 2006.We plan to stay in the Exumas for an extended period of time.
This gives you plenty of time for planning purposes and to book your flights well in advance. For those unfamiliar with the area, you fly into Miami or Ft. Lauderdale and from there to Nassau or other Bahamian destinations where we might be cruising at that time of your preference.
In the meantime we would like to hear from those who are seriously planning a trip to the Bahamas. Drop us a line and a time frame that could work for you. We will then plan an itinerary accordingly.
Christmas or New Year in the Bahamas could be a new experience for you.
We will keep the candles in the fridge next to the Champaign!
Provisional schedules and other topics can be found at: www.CreativeSailing.com "Spring Bird" has now air-conditioning and is waiting for you.We look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.
Sincerely,

March 2006 NEWS. Meet " Spring Bird".
Creative Sailing
has acquired an Ocean Cruiser in Cape Cod.It is a Wauquiez 47 or better known as Centurion 47. It has 2 large double cabins and en suite head and shower.
A boom furled and fully battened main sail, a genoa and a staysail, both to be furled from the cockpit, will give us the forces to good sailing performance. 3 electric winches will make life easy in handling all the sails.
The yacht is over equipped with safety equipment and instruments and has a satellite phone. For additional comfort it has an independent generator and air conditioning.
To do the homework of a well prepared trip, it needs a lot of planning ahead and for this we would also need some input of possible crew members who would like to come along for a cruise.
See our log to transfer of Spring Bird to Florida with pictures under: "Trip Log Cape Cod to Cape Coral". It was a 1600nm trip with full of challenges but very rewarding and a good experience.
Let us know if you are interested to sail with "Spring Bird" and we look forward to hear from you.
